The Town of Boonton now offers several permit types to assist residents, business owners, volunteers and visitors alike with parking in our historic downtown business district.  Below is more information including rules and costs.

Universal Permit - $175 (prorated after February 1st)

  • Valid in any parking space on any street regulated by a long-term parking meter or coin slot box in any town toll parking lot or on any public street.
  • No limit to the amount that can be purchased

Upper Main St. Permit -  $75 (non-prorated) - Limited supply

  • Valid for business owners, employees and residents WITHOUT driveway access living / working between 1017 Main Street (Culture Cabin) and 816 Main Street (Speak Easy Art Gallery) or a 100-block side street within those boundaries
  • Permit allows for parking in any space on Liberty Street OR the Upper Plane Street Lot regulated by a long-term parking meter or coin slot box
  • Limit of 2 per household / business (waiting list for additional permits available)
  • Includes a Loading / Unloading Pass good for 15-minutes in all metered spots
  • Proof of address required at time of application

Middle Main St. Permit - $75 (non-prorated) - Limited supply

  • Valid for business owners, employees and residents WITHOUT driveway access living / working between 815 Main Street (Upper Plane Street Lot entrance) to 601 Main Street (Wah Yan Kitchen) @ Cornelia Street or a 100-block side street within those boundaries
  • Permit allows for parking in any space regulated by a long-term parking meter or coin slot box in the Upper Plane Street Lot, Boonton Ave., Church Street, and Cornelia Street
  • Limit of 2 per household / business (waiting list for additional permits available)
  • Includes a Loading / Unloading Pass good for 15-minutes in all metered spots
  • Proof of address required at time of application

Lower Main St. Permit - $75 (non-prorated) - Limited supply

  • Valid for business owners, employees and residents WITHOUT driveway access living / working between 501 Main St. (Post Office) to 200 Main St. (Main Pharmacy Drugs) @ Division St or a 100-block side street within those boundaries
  • Permit allows for parking in any space regulated by a long-term parking meter on William, Union, Mechanic, and Division Streets
  • Limit of 2 per household / business (waiting list for additional permits available)
  • Includes a Loading / Unloading Pass good for 15-minutes in all metered spots
  • Proof of address required at time of application
volunteer permit

Volunteer Permit - FREE (registered nonprofit status required) Limited supply

  • Permit allows for volunteers to park in any space regulated by a short or long-term parking meter with in the Town of Boonton
  • Available to registered nonprofit organizations only
  • This pass must be placed in plain sight on the driver-side dashboard to be valid
  • Used when not volunteering will result in permanent loss of parking privileges for the nonprofit
  • Making duplicate copies will result in permanent loss of volunteer parking privileges for the nonprofit
  • Limit of 2 per nonprofit (waiting list for additional permits available)
  • Proof of nonprofit address or service to Boonton required at time of application

Parking Permit Regulations

  • Parking permits may be obtained at the Town Clerk's office
  • Proof of address required at time of application
  • Parking is permitted ONLY at a designated LONG-TERM space available at meters offering 3 -12 hours OR long-term spots in parking lots controlled by coin box (except for the volunteer pass).
    • Long-term meters are located half way up the 100 blocks on streets that intersect with Main Street and in several public parking lots
    • A long-term meter allows for 3 hours of parking with $0.25 cents (a quarter) verses short-term meters where a $0.25 cents (a quarter) provides 30 minutes (with a 2 hour limit)
  • Upper, Middle and Lower Main Street Permits valid on designated streets ONLY.  These permits are NOT VALID outside the stated locations.
  • Parking Permits MUST be displayed from the rear-view mirror in order to be valid
  • Volunteer and Loading / Unloading passes MUST be placed in plain sight on the passenger-side dashboard
  •  Nonprofits are limited to two volunteer passes per organization
  • Permits that have been lost or stolen may be replaced for a fixed charge of $25.00. 
  • All lost permits MUST be reported to the Boonton Police Department to obtain a replacement.

  • Submit the completed application with proof of address and payment to the "Town of Boonton" at the Clerk's office
  • A waitiing list is available should you wish to purchase more than two permits Upper, Middle or Lower Main Street permits
